How to share a tier list

Share a tier list either as a PNG image or as a link. Use the image for social feeds where people scroll, and use the link when you want the other person to make their own version of the same chart.
Image or link?
An image is the right choice almost everywhere people scroll. It shows up in the feed, it needs no click, and it survives being reposted. A link is better in one specific situation: when you want a reply rather than a reaction, because the person who opens it can drag the same items into their own order and send it back.
The Share button copies a link that carries the whole chart inside the address itself. Nothing is stored on a server, so the link keeps working and there is nothing to expire.
Discord
Drop the PNG straight into the channel. Discord shows it inline at a decent size and does not compress it hard, so item names stay readable. If your chart is very tall, people will only see the top of it in the feed, so consider splitting a forty item list into two charts.
X and Threads
Both re-encode images. A chart that looked fine on your screen can come out soft, especially the small text under each item. Two things help: keep item names short, and avoid putting more than about ten items in a single row so each tile stays large.
Image posts do better than link posts in most subreddits, and many communities have a rule against link shorteners. Post the PNG, then put the shareable link in the top comment for anyone who wants to make their own.
Instagram and TikTok
Both want tall images. A five row chart is close to square, which gets cropped. If you are posting to a vertical feed, add a couple of extra tiers so the chart is taller than it is wide, or place it on a plain background in your editor of choice.
Keeping text readable
- Short names beat full titles. Attack on Titan reads better than Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season.
- Ten items per row is about the limit before tiles get too small to read.
- Pictures survive compression better than small text, so use images where you have them.
- Check the saved PNG at phone size before posting, not at desktop size.
